Thea

Original acrylic on canvas, 110 x 70 cm. Thea stands with her back to us, turned toward a wash of pale gold that rises behind her like the first light of day. Her body is worked in dense ultramarine, layer upon layer of mineral blue until the surface holds the depth of deep water, veined with lighter currents where the light moves through. She is named for the Titaness of light. There is nothing hurried in her, only the long quiet line of a shoulder, a hip, a lowered gaze. Part of the Daughters of the Sea series, born of water and warmth, keeping her own stillness.
