Sonia Anton

I am a self taught painter working from the Romanian countryside, though my love of colour began in the south of France, where I mainly grew up. My mother, a renowned artist, had her studio there, and I spent my afternoons, weekends, and any free moment I could steal painting beside her.

I also grew up alongside my father, a renowned advertising art director and photographer, who taught me how to capture a moment through photography and to see the world a little differently. That way of looking — searching for light, feeling, and the quiet story within a single frame — still runs through every canvas I paint.

I have also lived in Mexico, New Zealand and Australia, and travelled the world with my family. Those places and those journeys are where most of my inspiration comes from: the light, the water, the colours, and the people I met along the way.

Today, my work is an ongoing exploration of the feminine figure, the colour blue, and the way a woman’s body moves like water, like waves. Each canvas is an attempt to capture that fluidity: the quiet strength, the gesture, the emotional current beneath the surface.

I work mainly in acrylic, building texture and layering colour until the figure feels alive. My paintings are personal, intuitive, and ever evolving, just like the practice itself.

My artworks are now in over 15 countries across the world, in homes and collections far from the studio where they were painted.
