Sunlit Repose

Sunlit Repose holds a single unhurried moment. A woman sits back on warm ochre ground, her white linen falling in long calm folds, her blouse alive with petals of cobalt, coral and jade. Behind her a blush arch opens onto deep blue, the way a doorway in the South opens onto shade at the hottest hour of the day. The palette carries the heat of terracotta walls and the cool relief of the sea beyond them, and the line is quiet and sure, drawn in one breath. She looks away from us, entirely at ease in her own company, and the whole painting settles into that stillness. Print on canvas, 100 x 100 cm.
