Daydreaming

Original acrylic on canvas, 90 x 70 cm, horizontal. A woman rests her head against her arm, eyes closed, drifting somewhere between sleep and thought. Her face is built from bold planes of ochre, apricot and soft cream, a single red mouth and a warm circle of colour at the cheek, while cobalt blue and deep gold press in around her like heat and shade meeting on a summer wall. The shapes are simple and confident, more feeling than description. A green hand curves across the foreground, holding the composition together and keeping the whole canvas in a slow, unhurried calm.
